How the Project was Done
The topic chosen between my partner and I was the controversial Battle of Stalingrad that took place during mid World War II. This particular topic was chosen because of the fact that the idea greatly intrigued both my partner and I (especially me). I am not very knowledgeable in quoting World War II facts, especially when it comes to the Eastern Front of the War. My partner, on the other hand, and a great variety of prior knowledge on World War II and the Battle of Stalingrad, and so we decided we would work together on the Battle of Stalingrad seen as a great opportunity to learn more about World War II since it is such an adept topic.
Both my partner and I started off our research on our topic by approaching books about Stalingrad. Much to our dismay, the information we received would not be placed on the website, so we primarily conducted our research by searching online tools for help with our topic. There, on the web, both of us were able to consult memoirs, perspectives, and firsthand accounts from witnesses, survivors, veterans, leaders, and soldiers of the Battle of Stalingrad. A couple of primary sources we had received were very important as they came from two Russians who lived during the time period of the Battle. We acquired a lot of secondary sources online as they helped tell how the battle occurred, and it helped for both my partner and I to create an understandable presentation on our website.
We unanimously decided to do our presentation on a website since the website presentation category is very interactive and comprehensible to use. The Website category provided us with many tools that allowed my partner and me as users to incorporate certain objects such as pictures and multimedia clips. Our project was created by using one main well-organized picture that would be the face of every page except one. Our group placed a great variety of pictures relative to the information we posted and complemented the site greatly. One multimedia clip was placed on a page that tells of the beginning of the German’s attack on Soviet Russia and finally concluded the project by finishing up the annotated bibliography and making finishing touches with revising and editing.
Our project about the Battle of Stalingrad relates to the NHD theme of turning points in history because the Battle was a major turning point in World War II and a major shift of momentum on the Eastern Front. The Battle marked the beginning of the decline of the Germans during World War II due to the loss of the Stalingrad stronghold and failure of Operation Barbarossa. It is considered a great moment and turning point in history because if the city of Stalingrad had not been recaptured by Soviet Russia, then the effects of the German Nazis could have lasted for a longer time period than what most expected.
